In Japan, little Yuki lives in the workshop of Master Toda, a stern and solitary embroiderer whose trade she learns in secret. One day, she proudly shows him the magnificent embroidered jacket she has made. Without mercy, he throws it out of the window. Yuki finds herself homeless in the middle of winter. Alone and desperate, she goes into exile in the mountains, where she meets a wolf who gives her a magic eyelash that allows her to see the world beyond appearances. In this way, she discovers the true face of men, but also her own identity… A fantastic tale from Japanese folklore, in a revisited version that deals with many themes: equality between men and women, the place of humans in nature, and the need to be wary of appearances.
This is a book that will help children to grow up, based on the initiatory tale of a little girl who takes her destiny into her own hands, and whose haiku-inspired poetic form is echoed in the vibrant, sculpted illustrations that plunge us into feudal Japan.

A fantastic tale from little-known Japanese folklore
A poetic form inspired by haiku, with simple but well-chosen words that are accessible to the youngest readers.
Large dry pastel and coloured pencil illustrations, alternately rich and quiet, where the wealth of detail enhances the conciseness of the text.
