The tale of the monkey fisherman

When winter is approaching, certain monkies of Japan head towards the hot springs of the moutains to spend the long cold months that lie ahead. It is then that we may see an extraordinary show between steam and ice… This great Japanese winter tale has been adapted for the first time in France in the form of a large Christmas picture book.

The book:

In northern Japan among the dense bambou forests, in the province of Joshinetsu Kogen, a group of monkies waits during autumn, their eyes turned towards the sky. Among them, there is a young macaque. The smallest one, the youngest of the Shunzens, holds his head up towards the moon. Every evening, when the stars appear, he listens to the wise one, the old Moroyama, stooped by age, the patriarch of the Macaques who speaks to the tribe about the next departure to spend winter among the hot mountain springs. The young macaque, distracted, will lose the route of the group and find himself alone in the forest, taken in by a peasant. He will become the benevolent spirit of the house for wintertime. But soon, spring will arrive once again…
