It is little known that before making his famous masterpiece, Leonardo da Vinci auditioned numerous models.

Nathalie Vessié-Hodges has imagined this unlikely and surreal casting. Its many jokes and pictures add fun to this gallery of former-future “Mona Lisas”. Her striking cartoon-style illustrations are made using marker pens, with a watercolour-like effect.

The book is being published in association with the Louvre Museum, as part of the exceptional retrospective to take place in autumn 2019 to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci.
