Inaluk, or, Why Is The Sky Blue?

One morning gazing at the sky above the ice floes, Inaluk, a young Inuit boy, finds himself wondering why it is blue. His parents don’t know. Neither does the village elder. So Inaluk sets out on a quest for answers. The animals he meets along the way each have their won theories, but none of these satisfy Inaluk. That is, until particles call out to him and entrust him with a scientific explanation.

Evelyne Mary, an engraver from the southeastern French region of the Ardéche, took inspiration from Inuit art to answer a question at once childlike, poetic, and existential. At the end of the book a two-page factual spread yields the floor to Jean Lilensten, head researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), to give readers no less than a lesson in astrophysics made perfectly accessible to young readers.
