Cappe Jeanne

Journalist, essayist, storyteller, author, and specialist in children’s literature, Francophone woman of letters Jeanne Cappe (1895-1956) was one of the first Belgian women to graduate from a university. In 1948, she founded the Conseil de Littérature de Jeunesse (Council for Children’s Literature), whose journal Littérature de jeunesse she edited until her death.
She was a prominent writer and adapter of fairy tales, with a perfect understanding of child psychology.
Among her works are Astrid the Smiling Queen, A Heap of Stories, The Splendid Adventure, and The White Notebook, published by Desclée de Brouwer and Casterman.
